Ella reigns supreme in Flexi Eventing

Ella Boyle certainly had a day to remember at the latest leg of the Baileys Horse Feeds Flexi Eventing at The Meadows. The Saintfield girl claimed the top two spots in the Pre Novice Section as well as runner up spot in the Novice class.

The seventeen year old competitor who works at Glenpatrick Sport Horses, won the Pre Novice class with Tigger, a six year old gelding by Hermes de Reve which was produced by Beverley Caves. She took runner up spot with her mother’s eight year old Captain Fire mare, Candy who was also in second spot in the Novice class.

Lynne Ireland also made her presence felt in this class by claiming third on Dowdstown Dancer and fourth with Inisharoan Aoife.

The Intermediate class this week saw increased entries with the win going to Claire Sedgeman on Archie, a nine year old part bred trekhener gelding by Masurenfuerst which was bred at Ballinteggart Stud and bought as a yearling by Claire. Daniel Brown took second place, just a fraction ahead of third placed Charlotte Dixon on Zermie, the winner in week two.

It was a run away victory in the Novice class for eighteen year old Leah Jackson from Newtownards with her eight year old Cyrano mare, Gemilly, with whom she has had significant eventing results. Emma Jackson with Impy shared equal percentage points with Ella Boyle but had to settle for third place on collectives.

Meanwhile, a very well deserved victory in the Intro class went to Conor O’Hare making his debut appearance with Lougherne Stud’s new stallion for 2016 – Lougherne Charity Blue, a very striking ‘gentleman’ by a top European showjumping sire, Chacco Blue.

‘Blue’ was bought from Paul Schockomohle last September and moved from Lougherne Stud’s German yard for this season before returning to show jump. Clearly Lougherne Charity Blue is a name to watch out for in the future. Second place went to Ellen Graham with Eclipse followed by Kerry Magill and Toffee.

Showjumping and cross country were very busy throughout the day and it was very fortuitous that the very heavy rain which was prevalent throughout much of the Province did not reach the Meadows until the latter part of the 1.10m class.
