IRISH LEAGUE: Ards is a really big game for us says Linfield boss Healy

Linfield manager David Healy knows that anything less than victory on Saturday against Ards will not be good enough if they want to catch league leaders Crusaders in the coming weeks.

The Blues closed the gap on the Crues to seven points after beating Cliftonville on Monday night - but Healy admits Stephen Baxter’s Shore Road outfit will have to take their foot off the gas - while his side have got to keep winning.

“Probable it will take an ulmighty collaspe from Crusaders to let us win the league title but all we can do is take care of our job.

“On Saturday we play Ards at home and it becomes a really big game for us.

“And people will think that Ards on paper we should beat but you can only take care of business out on the pitch.

“Hopefully we can have the same attitude and tempo as we had against Cliftonville and we will win the game,” said Healy.

And the Linfield manager knows the Windsor Park faithful have a huge part to play if the Blues are to somehow get themselves closer to Crusaders.

“We want to finish before the split as strongly as we can with the games against Ards and Ballinamallard United and the fans can play a massive part in that.

“They have ben superb all season and I am sure that will continue.

“We now have less time to recover for the game against Ards on Saturday but the players are peaking at the minute in terms of their fitness and they are well up for it and we will see where that gets us at the end of the season.”
