Larne stopper Rohan Ferguson named as the Sports Direct Premiership Player of the Month for March

Larne goalkeeper Rohan Ferguson has been named the Sports Direct Premiership Player of the Month for March following a series of outstanding performances between the posts.

Ferguson played a crucial role in helping Larne secure three important league victories during the month, as the Inver Park side defeated Cliftonville, Glenavon and Dungannon Swifts. He also performed penalty heroics as the Invermen knocked Glentoran out of the Irish Cup at The Oval.

Ferguson said: “I’d like to thank Sports Direct and the Football Writers’ for this award. It’s always nice to be recognised as sometimes goalkeepers are overlooked when it comes to individual awards.

“After a fantastic run, we’ve lost our last two games – both to Coleraine – so it is up to us to go out there and get back on track.

It's a Larne one-two this month as Gary Haveron won the managerial award. Ferguson cites his boss as a key factor in his decision to sign a new four-year deal.

"I had a year left, the club offered me a new deal and Gaz spoke to me at the time. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go back to Scotland or stay here.

"But Gaz showed a massive amount of faith in me, and I think that's hard to come by in football. It made up my mind. Gaz was a massive, massive part of me staying here."

Coleraine defender Charles Dunne was runner-up while Ballymena United striker Igor Rutkowski was third.
