McKeown, a native of Camlough, returns to the Ports from Newry City. He previously spent a year at Everton after beginning his youth career at Shamrock Park.

The midfielder said the ambition of the club played a key role in his decision to go back to Portadown after making 12 appearances for City last season.

“I think the key words around here at the moment are hungry and young team, and that’s obviously an attractive thing for anyone,” said McKeown.

“It seems to be really an exciting time for the club so I’m delighted to be here and to bring something to the team,” he told the club social media channels.

“I want to make as big an impact as I can and get a good run of games, to get a good bit of form going and to perform in front of the fans.”
