Swan reflected on his afternoon of one miss when handed time to weigh up his options before an instinctive close-range finish as an example of his value in the danger zone.

That first key opening featured Swan racing down the middle but unable to divert beyond Ports goalkeeper Jacob Carney as covering defenders closed in to increase the pressure.

The second sight of goal secured full points for Warrenpoint with a close-ranger header from inside the box thanks to sharp movement and rapid reactions.

“All strikers want to score goals and I’ve played a lot on the right this year so it’s great to be back up front and scoring,” said Swan after helping Warrenpoint Town to a 2-0 win over Portadown. “A chance like the first one today was the kind missing the past few weeks and it’s been tough not getting opportunities.

“So I was delighted to get them today and I know I missed the first one but, thankfully, I got on the scoresheet.

“The touch wasn’t bad (for the first) but what I did do - and shouldn’t have - was be more worried about the two lads coming in either side.

“I should have just put my focus on me and the keeper and putting the ball in the back of the net.

“Maybe being out on the right you pick up little bad habits but, hopefully, if back up front the goals will continue.

“When up front you are there and can be more comfortable getting opportunities compared to being out on the right trying to provide for a striker.

“I’ve always played up front and taken pride in putting away chances like the goal.

“Hopefully, I can score a lot more like that - as a striker, you’re always taught to get across the defender and I was lucky enough to put it away.

“When you go to away grounds it’s going to be tough and you will, at times, be under the cosh.

“As you could see, the second half was so much better.

“We’re taking it game-by-game but today was a massive win that we can bounce into another three points.”
