Irish League club provide update after goalkeeper leaves pitch in ambulance
Glentoran have confirmed goalkeeper Lorcan Donnelly is “recovering well and will be back between the sticks soon” after leaving Wilgar Park in an ambulance having suffered an injury while playing for Glenavon in their Championship clash against Dundela.
Donnelly joined the Lurgan Blues on loan from Glentoran ahead of the current campaign as the highly-rated youngster continues to build up key senior experience.
Saturday’s match was delayed for around 35 minutes as 20-year-old Donnelly received medical attention on the pitch following a collision before being transported from the Belfast venue in an ambulance.
In a positive update, Donnelly’s parent club Glentoran have confirmed the shot-stopper is on the road to full recovery.

"Glentoran would like to send our best wishes to Lorcan Donnelly, after he was involved in a collision yesterday for Glenavon against Dundela, which led to a delay in the game and Lorcan being tended to on the pitch before being taken away in an ambulance,” the Glens posted. “We are delighted to confirm that Lorcan is recovering well and will be back between the sticks soon.”
Donnelly has started in all six of Glenavon's league matches so far this season as the Co Armagh club target a Premiership return.
The Mourneview Park outfit had put together a five-game unbeaten run across all competitions prior to Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to the Duns, but manager Michael O’Connor was only concerned about Donnelly’s wellbeing.
"We’ve lost a game today but there’s more important things than football,” O’Connor told the club’s media channel. “We’ll go to the hospital and see if Lorcan is ok, that’s more important than a game of football.
"The ball has come into the box and the big centre-forward has went to challenge and it’s how Lorcan has landed, he’s landed awkwardly on his head and it was worrying at the time, but thankfully he’s ok.”
