Irish League title 'top of the list' for Coleraine summer signing from Scotland

Jay Henderson, a summer signing from Scotland, has set a first Irish League title for Coleraine in over five decades as “top of the list” on his targets.

The winger counts St Mirren, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Ross County and Ayr United on his list of past clubs and is relishing the chance to “kick on” in Coleraine colours – with trophy goals and fresh experiences key to making the move to Northern Ireland.

"One of the main points that I spoke to the manager before I came here was trying to win the league,” said Henderson on the official Coleraine club website. “I think he mentioned it's maybe been 50-odd years since that's happened.

"That's top of the list for me, I hope we can manage to do that.

"Obviously, the success that the team had in the Irish Cup last year, hopefully, we can do that again….the European tie (Conference League), we'll see how that goes.

"I've never played in Europe, it's a big occasion and I can't wait to get there.”

Henderson kicked off life with The Bannsiders across pre-season training this past week but has some links to Scotland to help ease his transition.

“I'm loving it...obviously the first day was quite tough, a bit of running involved but all the boys have welcomed me so far, so it's been good, I've enjoyed it,” he said. “I came through at St Mirren, played a few games there and then I went on to Inverness.

"During that wee loan spell we ended up getting to the Scottish Cup final, which was amazing at the time.

"After that I went to Ross County, so that was my third year there last year and just in the middle I went on loan at Ayr, which was a pretty successful season for me personally.

"I've come here to Coleraine and, hopefully, I can kick on.

“I've played against Lewis (McGregor) and ‘Muzz’ (Connor Murray)...they're obviously good lads and I've spoken to them a bit."

Henderson hopes to enhance Coleraine’s attacking strengths “either side on the wide area…just try to contribute goals and assists”.
