Mark Haughey has praised Linfield for the support they have given him during a frustrating 18-month spell with injuries after penning a new contract with the club.

The defender has agreed a one-year extension at Windsor Park is delighted to be playing again after a difficult spell on the sideline.

"After the last 18 months that I have had due to injury, I was more determined than ever, to get back and prove my fitness to the manager and the club," he told the club website.

"They have been fantastic with me during that time and to have been back playing regularly this season and now to extend my Linfield career makes it all worthwhile.

"Hopefully, I can continue that on to next season and win as many trophies as possible with club, going forward."

Boss David Healy is delighted to see the former Glenavon man extend his stay with the club.

"Mark is a hugely important and experienced player who made a major impact and contribution when he returned to the squad after long term injury earlier this season," said the Blues boss.

"I’m delighted that we’ve agreed a contract, extending his stay at the club by another season."

The league leaders have also been boosted by the news that rising start Jake Corbett signed his first professional contract with the club.

"Jake has made a huge impression coming through the underage amateur ranks at the club and he fully deserves the reward of this professional contract," added Healy.

"He made a huge contribution to the success of the Swifts in winning the Steel and Sons cup at Christmas and I believe he has a bright and promising future ahead in the game.”

The midfielder is thrilled to put pen to paper on the deal saying it was 'a dream come true' to play for the club.

"I am absolutely over the moon to have signed a professional contract at Linfield," said Corbett.

"Linfield is a massive club with the best bunch of players which made my decision to sign much easier than expected!

"As everyone knows, it’s a dream come true to play for this big club but hopefully one day soon, I could walk out in Windsor, as that would be a really positive high in my career!

"About a year ago I left with the squad to head to Marbella in Spain which was a real experience and a trip to remember. The whole trip made me feel hungrier and really knuckle down to get better and better.

"What the team did in Europe last season was truly amazing, the training and pre-season that went into these European games made me get ready for the season that was getting underway, so I was ready to hit the ground running.

"This season for the Swifts, I’ve hit in around the 25 goal mark from centre midfield, which everyone says is good but I’d have preferred to have got even more.”
