Northern Ireland goalkeeper backed 'to go far in the game' after sealing loan move from Rangers

Munn, who made his senior ‘Gers debut in the Scottish Cup last year, came through the youth ranks at Glentoran and has represented Northern Ireland up to U21 level.

The 20-year-old enjoyed loan spells at Dunfermline Athletic and Forfar Athletic last term, playing 14 league games across both stints, and is now set to gain further experience in Scotland’s League Two.

Munn is joining Dumbarton on a season-long loan deal as he looks to continue building towards putting himself in a position to challenge for a future role as Rangers’ number one.

The Donaghadee native has a contract with the Scottish giants which runs until 2028 and has impressed for the club’s youth teams.

Dumbarton currently sit ninth of 10 teams in Scotland’s fourth-tier and have conceded 14 goals in their opening seven matches.

McKeown admits he’s thrilled to have landed Munn’s services for the remainder of the campaign and believes he has the ability to enjoy a successful career.

“Mason had strong interest from clubs in the Championship and in England earlier on in the window and it didn’t quite materialise,” McKeown told the club’s website. “It’s excellent business for us to get this deal over the line and get him to The Rock.

“Mason is a player that Rangers’ coaching staff have extremely high hopes for, and it speaks volumes about the environment we have here that we are being trusted again to support their best talent through the next phase of his career.

“He gained vital experience last season during his loan spells, but now he’s determined to be a number one and get regular games under his belt.

"Competition for the number one jersey will be fierce, which can only help all of our keepers in their development.

“Mason has all the attributes and attitude to go far in the game and myself and the coaching team are excited to work with him.”
