Northern Ireland boosted their Women’s Euro 2022 qualifying hopes with a 1-0 victory against Belarus in Minsk.

The visitors closed the gap on second-placed Wales – beaten 1-0 at home by Group C leaders Norway – despite having goalkeeper Jackie Burns sent off in the first half.

Burns was dismissed for bringing down Anastasia Shcherbachenia with the Belarus captain through on goal.

But Northern Ireland’s 10 players took the lead three minutes before the break when Rachel Furness headed home.

Northern Ireland trail Wales by three points but have a game in hand on their British rivals.
