'What happens next happens next': Kris Lindsay says decision over Northern Ireland job is up to the Irish FA

Kris Lindsay says it is up to the Irish FA to decide who will be Tanya Oxtoby’s permanent successor as Northern Ireland’s women’s manager.

Lindsay was placed in interim charge for this month’s double-header as they slipped to defeats against Switzerland and Turkiye.

The loss to Turkey at Mourneview Park came via a mistake from returning goalkeeper Lauren Perry, which allowed Ece Turkoglu to net the decisive goal in the first half.

Northern Ireland put in a dogged performance but failed to overly test the visitors as attention now turns as to who will lead the country moving forward.

"I've been focussed on these two games,” Lindsay told BBC Sport NI. “That's something for the powers above me to decide what's happening for the next camp.

"My full focus has been on these two games. What happens next happens next. I thoroughly enjoyed this camp, but, as I say it's up to the powers that be to see what happens after this.

"They obviously scored from a mistake from us, which happens, it's fine and I thought that killed the momentum a little bit and we lost a little bit of enthusiasm and there was nothing really in it in the first half.

"But second half, I thought we were more of a Northern Ireland performance in terms of enthusiasm and intent, we had them pinned in for large spells of the second half.”

Northern Ireland know they will need to garner maximum points from their double-header against Malta next month and Lindsay is full of belief that they can achieve that objective.

"I think it's one where, of course, we want to get results, no one, likes losing games of football, but for me, we've got to develop these younger players and expose them to international football.

"I thought Mia Moore was really good, really positive, there's young, talented players there to build on and that's what they need, experience and sometimes you're going to suffer defeats.

"Yes, we've got a mix of experienced players there as well, but it's trying to get that balance right between getting our younger talented players exposure and putting on performances."
