Classic TT: Double delight for Mountain master Michael Dunlop after runaway victory in Lightweight race on Milenco by Padgett's Honda RS250

Michael Dunlop was celebrating a super Sunday double at the Classic TT on the Isle of Man after a runaway victory in the Lightweight race on the Milenco by Padgett’s Honda RS250.

The Ballymoney man, who won the earlier Formula One race and set a new outright 129mph lap record, led all the way in three-lap race to seal his second success of the 2026.

Cork’s Mike Browne, who was over 14 seconds down on Dunlop at Ballaugh on the second lap, later retired on the Mountain Mile on the Laycock Racing TZ250 Yamaha.

Dunlop set the fastest lap of the race at 119.081mph and won by over three minutes from Republic of Ireland rider Michael Sweeney (IMS/CSC Racing Yamaha), who was almost 43 seconds ahead of third-placed Rhys Hardisty (Phil Anslow Yamaha).

On the opening lap, Dunlop was 3.468s ahead of Browne at Ballaugh as the leading duo pulled clear of the rest, with Michael Sweeney holding third on corrected time, 15.626s behind Browne.

Paul Jordan, who failed to finish the race, was 3.131s further adrift in fourth on the second of the Laycock Racing TZ250 Yamaha machines.

An opening lap for Dunlop of 118.336mph gave him a slender advantage of half-a-second over Browne, who closed the deficit at the end of the lap and recorded a speed of 118.284mph.

Sweeney was 45.455s behind the leaders in third, 12.671s ahead of Chris Moore.

Dunlop enjoyed a slick pit stop by and gained 7.7s over Browne to start the second lap with an extended lead of more than eight seconds.

Dunlop’s cushion had increased to 14.730s at Ballaugh on the second lap over Browne, with Sweeney 1m 14.998s in arrears in third.

There was drama when Browne didn’t arrive at the Bungalow and it was later confirmed that he had retired on the Mountain Mile on the Laycock Racing Yamaha, promoting Sweeney to second place and Moore third.

A second lap of 115.510mph, including his pit stop, gave Dunlop a huge lead of 2m 00.426s over Sweeney, who was 13.922s up on Moore.

In total control, Dunlop slackened his pace on the Honda and brought the machine home for comfortable win by 3m 03.560s from Sweeney, with Hardisty rounding out the top three as Moore failed to finish.

Castleblayney’s Joe Loughlin won the Ultra Lightweight race on his Kawasaki ZXR400 from Owen Monaghan, also riding a Kawasaki ZXR400, with Paul Cassidy third on a Yamaha YZF400.

Loughlin’s final lap of 113.524mph was the quickest ever around the Mountain Course by a 400cc machine, bettering Jim Moodie’s mark of 112.40mph set way back in 1993.
