'I've had enough of it': Frustrated Jonny Campbell rues handling problems with BMW after losing more ground in Ulster Superbike title battle
A disillusioned Jonny Campbell could not mask his frustration after battling handling problems with his BMW at Saturday’s 50th anniversary Enkalon Trophy Ulster Superbike meeting at Bishopscourt.
Campbell, who won the USBK title for the first time in 2024 aged 21 to become the second youngest ever champion in the class behind Nico Mawhinney from Castledawson, finished as the runner-up in both races to Carl Phillips at the Co Down circuit.
The 155 Racing rider was over 11 seconds down on Phillips in the first race and more than eight seconds adrift in the second encounter, which was declared a result following a red flag on the penultimate lap of 12.
Campbell is now 42 points behind Phillips with two rounds remaining at next weekend’s Life Pass David Wood Trophy races and the showpiece Sunflower Trophy meeting from October 24-25.

Speaking shortly after Saturday’s second Enkalon Trophy race, Campbell said: “I’ve had enough of it, I don’t even know what to say anymore.
“It’s just problem after problem and my Dad’s bending over backwards for me trying to sort everything out, but there’s just nothing going for me at all.
“The suspension [was the problem]. The bike is just bucking and weaving down the straight. It’s not the wrong [electronics] map or something wrong with the map, it’s something else.
“Fair play to my Dad, he’s putting his own money into it, but the pair of us have just seen the end of it.”
Campbell cut Phillips’ lead to 22 points in July at the Neil and Donny Robinson Memorial races, capitalising on two DNFs for the reigning champion to claim a hat-trick.
However, Phillips has won the last four Ulster Superbike races in a row to extend his lead once more.
Campbell added: “I have the talent, I can beat them all and I probably shouldn’t be saying that, but just having no money at all… it’s just me, my Dad and my uncle just doing what we can.
“At this point, I just don’t know what to do anymore. I’ve fallen out of love with it so I don’t know what to do at this point. It’s just frustrating.”
