Randalstown's Eugene McManus declares 'I'm very lucky' after 'one of the biggest crashes of my life' in British Superbike Championship

Randalstown’s Eugene McManus declared “I’m very lucky to be standing here” on his welcome Sunday return to Brands Hatch after “one of the biggest crashes of my life” in the weekend British Superbike Championship.

McManus crashed on Saturday’s approach to Paddock Hill Bend in the opening race, with the official championship medical update reporting “he was assessed and stabilised at the circuit by the BSB medical team before being transferred to hospital for further assessment and investigation...he remained conscious throughout. At this stage, he is suspected to have sustained fractures to his right shoulder blade (scapula), right arm, and left leg”.

McManus, as posted across the official British Superbike Championship social media accounts, reflected on Sunday about the red-flagged race.

“Yeah, yesterday I had one of the biggest crashes of my life,” he said. “And I'm very lucky to be standing here...like all things considering, I've got off pretty light.

"And I just want to say a big thank you to all the BSB medical staff and to everybody that looked after me yesterday.

"It was a big scary moment but, yeah, we're back here and we'll be back soon.”

An update posted across BSB social media on Sunday morning confirmed “great to see Eugene McManus back trackside watching at Brands Hatch after his huge crash yesterday” before later adding “speedy recovery to Eugene McManus...he is back supporting the team from the pitlane today”.
