Raul Fernandez dominates for British MotoGP success as Jorge Martin increases title advantage at Silverstone

Raul Fernandez was unstoppable at the Qatar Airways British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The Spaniard led from lights out to the chequered flag aboard the SuperFile Trackhouse Aprilia, becoming the 12th different winner in the last 12 British Grands Prix and the seventh different winner of the 2026 season.

It was another Aprilia podium lockout, following the manufacturer’s clean sweep of all three podium places in the Tissot Sprint race.

Starting from P2 on the grid, Fernandez produced a dominant performance aboard the Aprilia RS-GP.

When Tisasot Sprint winner Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura both made a mess of disengaging their holeshot devices at Turn 1, it was all the 25-year-old needed to break clear of the field.

By lap three, having set a new lap record, Fernandez had taken control, and the race was already beginning to look beyond the reach of his rivals.

He went on to take the chequered flag more than two seconds clear of Championship leader Martin, making amends for the disappointment of crashing out of Saturday’s Sprint race.

“I think we did a really good job because it was not an easy race managing the rear tyre and the fuel,” said Fernandez.

"After the frustration of yesterday, the team helped me put that behind me, and I am very happy because this one is special. We have three consecutive podiums, and now we want more.”

Martin’s second place capped an excellent weekend for the Championship leader, who stretched his advantage to 31 points over teammate Marco Bezzecchi.

An exhausted Bezzecchi battled through to third, claiming his second podium of the weekend despite still recovering from injury and completing another all-Aprilia top three.

Ai Ogura (SuperFile Trackhouse Aprilia) remains third in the Championship despite crashing out of the Grand Prix in the early stages, having secured a podium finish in the Sprint race.

Marc Marquez, meanwhile, slipped to 40 points behind Martin in the standings after a frustrating weekend at Silverstone. The Lenovo Ducati rider could manage only seventh in Sunday’s Grand Prix, following a disappointing ninth-place finish in the Sprint race.

Czech rider Filip Salac (OnlyFans American Racing Team) claimed victory in a sensational Moto2 race that produced a dramatic final-lap twist.

Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez looked to have the race under control out front, but the Spaniard sensationally celebrated one lap too early.

Matters went from bad to worse when contact with Dani Holgado damaged the exhaust on his Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP machine, eventually dropping Gonzalez to P14.

Salac capitalised to take a memorable victory, with Ivan Ortola (QJMOTOR – Biolec – MSI) securing second place. Alex Escrig (KLINT Racing Team) completed the podium in third, celebrating his maiden Moto2 podium.

There was further drama in Moto3, where David Almansa (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) produced a stunning ride to victory.

Unfortunately for the home crowd, British star and pole-setter Scott Ogden crashed out in the early stages, ending his hopes of a strong result at Silverstone.

Eddie O’Shea was the highest-placed British finisher, bringing his GRYD Racing Honda home in eighth, while Irish rider Casey O’Gorman secured 12th place aboard the SIC58 Squadra Corse Honda.
