Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson later confirmed that the remainder of the session had been cancelled, due to the time it would take to bring riders on the course back to the Grandstand and restart another session, with fading light also an issue.

Qualifying on Tuesday began as scheduled at 18:30 BST after earlier concerns over the weather.

However, rain showers were expected to arrive until later in the evening on Tuesday.

Monday’s qualifying session was cancelled because of wet weather on the Isle of Man, with Sunday’s opening Manx Grand Prix session stopped prematurely as the weather began to close in.

Italian rider Salvatore Sallustro crashed at Greeba Bridge on Sunday in a red flag incident and was airlifted to Noble’s Hospital. No details were provided on his condition.

The organisers intend to use Wednesday’s afternoon contingency slot for qualifying, with roads scheduled to close at 12:30 BST.
