Sunflower Trophy races cancelled on safety grounds after yellow weather warning issued for Co Down
The Sunflower Trophy meeting at Bishopscourt in Co Down has been called off because of a yellow weather warning for parts of Northern Ireland this weekend.
Strong winds are forecast for Co Down through until Sunday afternoon, with heavy rain also expected on Saturday.
The Hillsborough Club made the announcement on Thursday evening.
A statement read: "It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of this weekend’s Sunflower Races due to the forecasted storm conditions.

"This decision has not been taken lightly. Following a lengthy period of deliberation and careful consideration of the forecast and the safety of everyone involved, the Club has reached the difficult conclusion that the event cannot go ahead.
"We understand the disappointment this news will bring to our riders, teams, sponsors, officials, volunteers and spectators, particularly given the work and preparation that goes into an event of this scale. We sincerely thank everyone for their continued support and understanding.
"Full refunds will be processed to all those who have paid in due course. We ask for your patience while these are arranged.
"Thank you for your support of the Sunflower Races.”
Earlier this year, the Enkalon Trophy meeting at Bishopscourt were postponed in April because of a yellow weather warning for high winds. The event was held in September.
