Colin Turkington revs up for British Touring Car Championship title charge at Silverstone

Team BMW’s Colin Turkington is aiming to build on an excellent brace of podium results at Donington Park as the penultimate round of the British Touring Car Championship takes place this weekend at Silverstone.

The Portadown driver has been in excellent form during the second half of the season and has claimed more points than any of his rivals over the last three rounds.

“Silverstone has become my backyard since moving to the UK in 2019 and I’m looking forward to having this home advantage on my side this weekend,” said Turkington.

“Since the season resumed in July, it's been my time to strike back and following our misfortune earlier in the year I'm ready to fight for this to the end.

“I’m excited about the run-in because the final two events extract everything. It’s an extreme level of intensity but one you get hooked on.

“I love being a competitor and it’s this love of the sport that keeps me pushing.

“We've had a great run through the summer, but it's been a case of celebration as well as frustration because there's been a fair bit of rough and tumble along the way too.

“This means I'm slightly further behind in the points than I'd have liked but it's allowing me to just get my head down and race.”

A four-time BTCC champion, Turkington last won the title in 2019.

He is currently fourth in the championship on 273 points, 43 behind leader Jake Hill.

With five victories under his belt this season, Turkington has won more races than any other driver except Hill, who has triumphed six times.

With a soft compound tyre on offer for one of Sunday’s races after drivers only had mediums to choose from at Donington, this weekend promises some exhilarating action at Silverstone.

Qualifying will be key on Saturday and Turkington is gearing up for one final push towards a potential fifth British crown.

Sunday’s three races are scheduled to take place at 11am, 2:20pm and 5:10pm, with live coverage on ITV4.
