Sam Moffett claims Omagh Spring Rally title

Sam Moffett and his co-driver Jason McKenna won the Omagh Motor Club Spring Rally in their Ford Fiesta R5.

They finished 48 seconds clear of Mark Donnelly and Stephen O’Hanlon in a Mitsubishi EVO.

Niall McCullagh and his co-driver brought their Mitsubishi EVO into third place some 73 seconds down on the winning crew.

Frank Kelly and co-driver Sean Ferris put in yet another great drive to finish fourth in their Ford Escort while Frank and Steven O’Brien (Mitsubishi EVO) and Shane McGirr and Jackie Elliott (Toyota Starlet rounded of the top six.

The event was Omagh Motor Club’s opening forest event with sponsorship from Dickson’s Insurance.

The popular clubman event based in the Fivemiletown area used a new format of challenging but smooth stages in the Jenkin Hill, Crocknagrally and Doon forests which also included a combined start and finish venue at the Bridge Tavern, Eskra.

Next weekend there will be a feast of rallying with the FIA World Rally Championship in Mexico, the British Rally Championship kicks into gear in Wales and the National Rally Championship starts in Ballina.

Five Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship are currently testing at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal as they ramp up their pre-season preparations. Motorbase Performance has made the trip to Portimao with two Ford Focuses for former champion Andrew Jordan and team stalwart Mat Jackson. They have been joined by Mercedes A-Class duo Adam Morgan and Aiden Moffat, both of whom are fielded by Ciceley Motorsport.

Tom Ingram is giving his 2016 Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis its maiden run, alongside the similar car of fan favourite Rob Austin.
