A third of people in Belfast will struggle to afford a holiday this year
In around 10 weeks' time, July will be here and the summer holiday season will have begun! However, according to a new survey by Haypp, approximately 107,000 people in Belfast will struggle to afford a holiday this year.

More worryingly, 15%, or 52,000, will be going into debt to pay for a holiday, using credit options including Klarna, personal loans or payday loans.
To support people this summer, Jenny Edman, Finance Expert from Haypp, has revealed how you could save over £1000 in time for summer, and created a helpful holiday savings calculator to show where the biggest savings could be made.
Tee total
Going tee-total might be just the trick to getting you a bit of extra cash for your summer holidays! On average Brits spend around £15.30 a week on alcohol, looking at this cost over the next 10 weeks until you get to July, you can save around £153. Not only will it benefit your bank balance, but it will also make that cocktail in the sunshine taste ever better too!
Stop buying coffee
Brits have definitely developed a strong coffee culture over the years, with oat flat whites and matcha lattes becoming daily essential for many. With the average Brit spending £3.40 a day on a cup of coffee, this equates to £230 across the next 10 weeks. So next time you fancy a coffee, brew up at home!
Quit smoking
With the price of 20 cigarettes now costing around £14.51, it’s certainly not a cheap habit for smokers, especially with the average smoker smoking around 10 cigarettes every day. Not only is it better for your health, but stopping smoking can also bring lots of financial gain too. With the average smoker spending around £50.79 on cigarettes a week, quitting the habit in the 10 weeks leading up to your summer holiday will save you a huge £507.90.
If you’re looking to quit the habit for good, then alternatives, such as nicotine pouches are a great option, as not only are they smoke-free and discrete in comparison to cigarettes, but they are also cheaper, meaning you’ll still be able to save money whilst leaving the harmful cigarettes behind!
Stop the takeaways
On average, Brits love to order a takeaway at least once a week, spending approximately £9 per person. If you do the maths this works out at nearly £36 a month - and a lot more if you’re paying for the rest of the household! By stopping takeaways for the next 10 weeks, and making your own meals, you could save a huge £90 towards your holiday fund, or £360 for a family of four.
