FIVE WAYS TO BE PART OF BELFAST’S RE[ACT] FESTIVAL

A cinema trip with a hopeful twist, a creative night out or a chance to rescue your favourite jeans. The RE[act] Festival has something for everyone.

This November, RE[act] Festival invites everyone to join the conversation, try something different and discover how small actions can help shape the city’s future.

Here are five events to put in your diary.

1.       A movie night with a fresh perspective

Benedict Cumberbatch provides the inspiration for your next cinema outing with RE[veal]: How to Live on Earth, receiving its Belfast premiere at the Europa Hotel Penthouse on Tuesday 10 November. Billed as ‘the world’s greatest how-to video’, the film travels around the globe to meet people turning bold ideas into action.

2.       A chance to see Belfast through someone else’s eyes

The park where you played as a child might hold very different memories for someone who grew up there 50 years ago. RE[connect]: Transgenerational Green Spaces Filmmaking Project brings those perspectives together on Thursday 12 November. Working with NI Screen, Belfast Healthy Cities and the NI Commissioner for Children and Young People, participants will share stories and learn filmmaking skills while exploring how Belfast’s green spaces have changed- and what they could become.

3.       An evening to brush up on your creativity

Taking place at Belfast Pottery Painting on Thursday 12 November, RE[create]: Pottery Painting for Climate Action invites you to decorate a piece inspired by nature. With the Woodland Trust joining the conversation, it’s a chance to slow down, get creative and give some thought to the places we love. Artistic perfection is entirely optional.

4.       A little TLC for your favourite clothes

We all have something lurking in the wardrobe that needs a stitch, a patch or a bit of attention. Bring it along to the RE[pair] Repair Café at Belfast Grand Central Station on Saturday 14 November. Hosted by the Northern Ireland Resource Network, the hands-on clinic will help seasoned stitchers and complete beginners discover how to keep clothes in use for longer. That favourite jumper could have another winter in it yet.

5.       Some detective work with a difference

For anyone curious about the wildlife on their doorstep, RE[verify]: Become a Butterfly Data Detective offers a chance to turn that interest into something useful. Join Butterfly Conservation at Lenadoon Community Forum on Tuesday 10 November, to learn how butterfly records are collected and checked. No specialist experience is needed, and your contribution could help build a better understanding of nature across Belfast and Northern Ireland.

From discovering a new hobby to giving an old favourite a second life, RE[act] offers plenty of ways to join in. Bring a friend, try something different and be part of the conversation about a greener, more sustainable Belfast.
