Heritage Volunteering opportunity for 18 – 30-year-olds in Northern Ireland

Heritage Network, the UK’s membership body for not-for-profits, local authorities and businesses who are working towards restoring, reusing and managing historic buildings for the benefit of their communities, launched applications earlier this month to be a ‘Digital Hero’ at their Conference in Belfast & Armagh this September. This opportunity is open to 18–30-year-olds based in Northern Ireland.

The ‘Digital Hero’ scheme involves planning, capturing and scheduling marketing content across the 3-day conference. Mainly focusing on social media, volunteers will be able to get creative with the content, develop their media skills, meet heritage sector professionals and learn more about the community heritage sector in Northern Ireland and the UK.

“Every Conference, we open applications exclusively to those near to the event”, Beth Crockett, Marketing & Communications Officer at the Heritage Network says. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to get experience at the UK’s largest community heritage event, whilst learning more about the heritage sector. If you are interested in a career in heritage and have some digital skills that you want to develop, I really encourage you to apply”.

Digital Heroes will receive free access to the whole 3-day event, including tours and Welcome Reception in Belfast on Sunday 27th September, the main Conference day and Conference Dinner in Belfast on Monday 28th and tours and Farewell Lunch in Armagh on Tuesday 29th September.

They will also get to attend a few pre conference marketing meetings to develop ideas and plan content.

The Conference has the perfect mix of delegates; community heritage leaders, major heritage agencies and funders, local authorities, heritage businesses and early-career professionals. The emphasis is on the impact of community-led heritage on people and places, explored through the experience of heritage regeneration in our host towns and cities and beyond, making it the perfect event for Digital Heroes to gain experience in the heritage sector.

Applications are open until 17th July and you can apply online on the Heritage Network’s website.
