More Than Just a Name: 58th Old Boys Bowling Club Opens 2026 Recruitment
Bridging the Gap: Where 15-year-olds and 85-year-olds compete on common ground
The 58th Old Boys Bowling Club officially launched its recruitment drive today, inviting new faces to join them for the upcoming 2026 season. Operating out of their home green at Grove Park on North Queen Street, the club is a proud member of the Northern Ireland Bowling Association (NIBA).

While the "Old Boys" title might suggest a certain demographic, the club is actually one of the most vibrant and age-diverse groups in the league. Club Secretary Andrew Robinson points out that the name is a nod to heritage rather than a strict membership rule—in fact, 60% of current members are under the age of 40 and made up of both males and females.
"That’s the beauty of our club," says Robinson. "We have 15-year-olds playing alongside 85-year-olds. Men playing with woman. None of it matters once you're on the green; we all come together to enjoy the sport and the community spirit. Whether you're a seasoned pro or have never held a bowl in your life, your more than welcome to our club so search for us on Facebook, send us a message or drop us a email at [email protected]
The season kicks off in April and runs through September - with league matches held on a Saturday, the club offers a perfect weekend summer activity for those looking to stay active and social. It’s a rare opportunity to join a club where heritage meets a new generation, ensuring that the local tradition of lawn bowls remains a vibrant part of North Belfast for years to come.
