The Royal Air Force will return to an airfield with a remarkable RAF history this September as the RAF Town Show takes over Enniskillen St Angelo Airport for a free two-day celebration of aviation, technology and careers.

Taking place on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September, the event will give visitors the chance to get up close to a Typhoon, meet serving RAF personnel and discover the people, technology and skills behind the modern Royal Air Force.

Visitors will also be treated to a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast, while members of an RAF aerobatics team will be on hand to meet the public and talk about the skills and training behind display flying.

St Angelo Airport has a particularly significant connection to RAF history. During the Second World War, it was RAF St Angelo and operated as part of Britain's wartime air defence network. Aircraft based there included Spitfires and Hurricanes, while RAF flying boats operating from nearby Lough Erne played a vital role protecting Atlantic shipping from German U-boats.

At the centre of this year's RAF Town Show will be the Typhoon, one of the RAF's frontline combat aircraft. But visitors will also discover that delivering modern air power requires far more than pilots and fast jets.

Engineers, cyber specialists, intelligence analysts, air operations personnel, logisticians and many other professions all contribute to RAF operations. Serving personnel will be available to share their experiences and explain the opportunities, training and career pathways available in both the Regular RAF and RAF Reserves.

Cpl Pam Thomas-Watson, event organiser, said: "There's something very special about bringing the RAF Town Show to St Angelo. Visitors will be able to stand on an airfield that played its own part in RAF history more than 80 years ago, while at the same time they'll be able to get close to a Typhoon and discover the technology and careers shaping the RAF of today.”

Alongside the aircraft, the Town Show will feature live RAF Band performances and activities suitable for families and visitors of all ages.

The RAF Town Show is free to attend and is designed to give visitors an informal opportunity to experience aspects of RAF life, meet the people behind the service and discover more about the opportunities available.
