Seven-turbine extension to Evishagaran Wind Farm near Dungiven
ERG UK Holding Limited has submitted a planning application to the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) for a proposed extension to the operational Evishagaran Wind Farm, located in the townlands of Evishagaran and Cruckanim, east of Dungiven.

The extension would add seven wind turbines to the existing 13‑turbine wind farm. Following consultation feedback and technical assessment, the layout has been refined to maximise the use of existing access tracks where possible and to avoid deep peat and priority habitats. The application includes a substation and construction compound to facilitate connection to the grid.
The application has been submitted under the regionally significant development planning process and is supported by a comprehensive Environmental Statement, including detailed assessments of landscape and visual impact, ecology, noise and traffic, together with mitigation measures. The scheme supports Northern Ireland’s net zero ambitions, aligned with the Northern Ireland Energy Strategy and the Climate Change Act (Northern Ireland) 2022.
If approved, the extension would generate enough low‑carbon renewable electricity to power up to 25,000 homes in Northern Ireland each year and offset approximately 34,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. It is expected that jobs will be created during the construction and operational phase, supporting the local supply chain and sustainable economic growth.
Commenting on the submission, Melissa Falconer, Head of Business Development (UK), said:
“ERG is pleased to have submitted a planning application for a seven‑turbine extension to Evishagaran Wind Farm, following extensive engagement with local communities over almost two years. We have listened carefully to feedback and, in line with this, refined the design while continuing to support Northern Ireland’s net zero ambitions. Subject to approval, the project would deliver significant renewable generation, local jobs and ongoing community benefit.”
ERG’s vision is to be fully embedded in Northern Ireland, delivering benefits for the environment, local communities and the economy. ERG has invested over £35 million in the construction of the Evishagaran and Craiggore wind farms to date. During 2025, ERG also completed construction of the 11‑turbine Corlacky Wind Farm (approximately 3 km west of Swatragh). The wind farm is now fully operational and generates around 176 GWh of renewable electricity annually, avoiding an estimated 66,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
The application will be assessed by DfI Planning, with opportunities for statutory consultees and members of the public to make formal representations as part of the process. ERG welcomes further engagement on the Proposed Development and the positive impact of its presence in Northern Ireland on the economy and local communities.
