At 89 the lifelong member of the Ulster Farmers’ Union recently became the oldest person in the UK to pass the PA1 and PA2 spraying courses, which teach farmers how to safely use agrochemicals.

Receiving his certificate, at the UFU’s County Antrim President’s Area Meeting, Willie said there were three simple lessons from the course - keep all records up to date, write everything down and read the labels.

He could have added never to let age stand in the way, since he topped the last oldest person in the UK to pass the course by a good ten years.
