Farmer groups hold protest outside BBC headquarters

The lunchtime included representatives from the Northern Ireland Agricultural Producers Association and Farmers For Action.

A spokesperson claimed the failure of the BBC to report on the proposal for legislation on farm gate prices showed the organisation had lost touch with rural issues.

The groups believe the proposed legislation would return Northern Ireland farmers a minimum of the cost of production inflation linked plus a margin across the staples, and would create over 20,000 jobs across Northern Ireland with an annual welfare saving of over £280million.

The Committees of both NIAPA and FFA have said that the vast majority of political parties and independents are very supportive of the idea for the legislation.

A spokesperson added: “The BBC should be playing its part in informing its viewers and listeners and questioning the politicians ahead of the election on what could be the biggest turnaround in prosperity ever for Northern Ireland.”
