Legal action over alleged structural defects in Belfast apartment complex settled

A class action over alleged structural defects in a Belfast city centre apartment complex has been settled.

Compensation was being sought by more than 50 owners of flats in the Library Square development.

But a confidential resolution was announced at the High Court.

No admission of liability was made by any party under the terms of the settlement.

Located in Kent Street, the nine-storey building opened in 2006.

Writs were issued by the owners in 2016 against the builders and engineers.

The claims were for losses due to alleged structural and design flaws.

At a previous hearing it was suggested that the Library Square complex may have to be demolished.

Some experts in the case had expressed the view that the alleged issues cannot be fixed.

Ultimately, however, proceedings were resolved without the need for a trial.

Mr Justice Horner was told all sides had agreed the terms of the settlement.
