Mighty Spud wins gold

In October 2015, a group of potato growers, processors and packers came together to champion a communications campaign to promote the greatness, or indeed the mighty not humble nature of the spud.

One year on, The Mighty Spud campaign, picked up Gold for ‘Best Use of Social Media’ at the recent CIPR Pride Awards, considered to be the Oscars of the PR and Communications industry.

This really wouldn’t have been possible without the support and backing from both local producers and packers who pay their levy to promote this initiative.

The UFU is encouraging stakeholders in the potato industry to come together in support of the Mighty Spud, NI potato promotions campaign. Over the past year the Mighty Spud has gained a significant online presence and attracted a great deal of media attention.

The UFU has said to continue making positive progress the industry must back the campaign and has called on potato growers and industry stakeholders to once again make a commitment to further the partnerships work by renewing their funding for the year 2016-2017. Suggested funding rates are set as follows: ware growers, £6 per acre grown; seed growers/packers, £3 per acre grown; growers’ packers/retailers, £9 per acre grown.
