Northern Ireland distillery unveils exclusive seven-year-old Shortcross whiskey

Crossgar distillery launches limited-edition whiskey as it continues its reputation for innovation and award-winning spirits

Multi-award-winning Shortcross Whiskey, distilled, matured and bottled at Rademon Estate Distillery in Crossgar, launched a limited edition product, an exclusive 7-Year-Old Shortcross Single Malt which was bottled to celebrate the recent and hugely successful Belfast Whiskey Week 2026.

The new whiskey is a further example of the focus on innovation that’s been driving spirits from Northern Ireland distilleries over many decades.

David Boyd Armstrong, joint founder of Rademon Estate Distillery with wife Fiona, says the special whiskey has been solely matured for seven years in a first filled Oloroso Sherry Hogshead cask, “bringing together the bright, fruit-forward character of Shortcross Single Malt with the rich, decadent influence of a first fill Oloroso sherry cask, creating a beautifully balanced and complex whiskey”.

“The new whiskey is double distilled in traditional copper pot stills, including one of the smallest whiskey stills on the island of Ireland,” adds David, Rademon’s master distiller.

“This expression delivers exceptional depth of flavour and is non-chill filtered and bottled in its natural colour,” he adds.

David describes the unique taste “like sherry soaked raisins and sweet malt intertwined with our signature orchard fruit notes”.

The new whiskey follows the recent success of Rademon’s Classic Gin which has has taken home silver at The Spirits Business Awards 2026. Shortcross was the first gin distilled in Northern Ireland in over a century.

“We’re so proud of this recognition,” David says. “Every bottle is crafted with passion, care, and a commitment to quality and awards like this make it all worthwhile. Thank you for all your continued support. Here’s to Ireland’s most award-winning gin.”

Rademon Estate has since become one of the most innovative distilleries in Northern Ireland. The facilities feature a purpose-built visitor centre and shop. In addition, the distillery regularly hosts a programme of events that include musical evenings and bodega tours.
