The solar manufacturing business has secured approval for 7.117GW of TOPCon solar cell capacity under India's approved manufacturer scheme, marking a significant expansion of domestic clean energy production.

Avaada Electro has secured approval for 7.117GW of N-type TOPCon solar cell manufacturing capacity under India's Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), in a move the company says strengthens the country's clean energy manufacturing capabilities.

The capacity, located at Avaada Electro's Butibori facility in Maharashtra, was included in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's 13th revision of the ALMM List-II published on October 28. The company said the milestone represents a significant step in its plans to build a large-scale solar manufacturing business while supporting India's efforts to strengthen domestic supply chains and reduce reliance on imported solar technology.

Avaada's approved capacity is based on G12 N-type TOPCon solar cell technology, with a manufacturer-declared maximum cell efficiency of up to 26.8 per cent and an average efficiency of 25.89 per cent. According to the company, the technology is designed to improve the amount of electricity generated from a given solar cell area and support the production of higher-power solar modules. The facility's 7.117GW annual nameplate capacity will supply solar developers, engineering firms and module manufacturers operating within India's expanding renewable energy sector.

Vineet Mittal, chairman and whole-time director of Avaada Electro Limited, said: "India's clean energy future cannot depend only on how much solar power we install. It must also depend on how much technology we develop, how much we manufacture ourselves, and how effectively we compete with the world.

"Our 7.1 GW TOPCon solar cell manufacturing enlistment is an important milestone in that journey.

"But manufacturing leadership is not about building the biggest factory. It is about making better products, improving efficiency every day, maintaining uncompromising quality and earning the trust of customers through consistent performance.

"At Avaada, we believe that every improvement in technology must ultimately create value for our customers, for the environment and for our country. Our ambition is simple to Make in India. Compete with the world. Make every watt count. This milestone is not the destination. It is another step towards demonstrating that India can build advanced clean energy technology at scale and with globally competitive standards."

The company said it will continue investing in advanced solar manufacturing technologies and production capabilities as it seeks to compete globally on quality, efficiency and cost.
