Covid vaccine for staff and residents at Co Antrim nursing home

Staff and residents at a Co Antrim nursing home have joined the growing number of people in Northern Ireland to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

Some 19 residents and 34 staff members at Knockagh Rise Nursing Home in Greenisland were given the first dose of the Pfizer vaccination today, with the second due around January 4.

A post on the home’s Facebook page read: “A big day for us today at Knockagh Rise and somewhat emotional also. A Nursing Vaccination team visited to give the first vaccination against Covid-19 to all staff and residents who consented.

“We are grateful to be one of the first nursing homes in Northern Ireland to be visited and thankful to the nurses who administered the Pfizer vaccine.

“The second vaccination is to be given within 21 days. A huge thank you to all of our team who came in at short notice to receive the vaccination.”

Meanwhile, the first Covid-19 vaccine in the Northern Trust was administered on Sunday.

Lead Nurse for the Vaccination Programme, Megan Rodgers, was given the vaccine by Lead Nurse Margaret Diamond.

Both will now administer the vaccine to care home staff and residents in the Northern Trust area.
