Carnlough and Glenarm Parishes ‘victim of scam incident’

A Co Antrim coastal church is reminding parishioners it has not authorised anyone to collect money on its behalf.

The warning follows a scam incident at Carnlough and Glenarm Parishes.

In a social media post today (Thursday), the church stated: “Unfortunately the parish has been the victim of a scam. Thankfully, no money was taken.

“The PSNI have been notified and are investigating.

“Please be extremely vigilant. To be clear, the parish has not authorised anyone to contact parishioners regarding collections nor has it authorised anyone to collect money on behalf of the parish.”

It is the latest in a series of such warnings during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In April a number of churches in east Antrim urged their congregations to be vigilant after scammers attempted to steal weekly offering envelopes.
