A heartbroken NI girl is appealing for information after her sister and her boyfriend - along with another couple - were badly beaten up by a gang of youths outside a NI train station.

Police are also appealing for information following a report of an assault which occurred at the Eglinton Street area of Portrush on Friday 5th March.

Sergeant McClean said: “At around 8:50pm, it was reported that two men aged in their 20s and two women aged in their late teens were assaulted by a group of youths in the area.

“One of the males attended hospital following the incident.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw anything suspicious in the area, to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 68 06/03/21. A report can be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport. Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”

And in a post on social media appealing for information, Melissa Robinson says: “My sister and her boyfriend and another couple where out a walk in PORTRUSH!

“They where walking past the TRAINSTATION at approximately 9 o’clock and a group of 15/16 people jumped them all!

“Breaking all 4 of their glasses and badly injuring 1 in the face!

“One of the friends had even passed out and one of the young boys decided to start kicking her in the head!

“I would appreciate any names as this is currently being reported to the police and it would save time with all the cctv from the train etc.

“I’ve also got a picture of glasses from one of the girls that was in the group (picture included)

“This is actually beyond a joke that young thugs are running around the port assaulting innocent people that are out minding their own business.

“Worst case scenario was that a life could of been taken tonight, one punch can kill never mind a kick to the head.

“These people need caught and punished. Every last one of them!

“This antisocial behaviour needs to STOP!!”

In a Tweet Sinn Fein MLA Caoimhe Archibald said: “I’ve spoken to the PSNI about an incident in Portrush last night where people were attacked near the train station, one had to go to hospital with their injuries!

This is disgraceful and those responsible need brought to book.

Anyone with information should bring it forward.”
