Police at scene of shooting incident in Newtownabbey

A man aged in his 50s has been taken to hospital following a shooting incident in the New Mossley area of Newtownabbey on Wednesday evening.

Police said the incident took place shortly after 7pm, and that the man’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Inspector Julian Buchanan said: “At 7.05pm this evening, police received a report that a male had been shot in the right knee.

“The male, aged in his fifties has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which, at this time do not appear to be life threatening, but have the potential to be life changing.”

Insp Buchanan added: “Our enquiries are at an early stage, and I appeal to anyone with information to call detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1690 of 18/11/20.
