Elderly woman who gives stranger £1 has her handbag snatched

An elderly woman who kindly offered a stranger £1 when he asked for it, then had her handbag snatched by him.

Detectives are appealing for information following a distraction type burglary in the Beechill Road area of Belfast yesterday afternoon, Sunday 23 April.

During the 2pm incident, an unknown male called at the home of an elderly lady and asked her for £1. But the man followed the lady into her home and snatched her handbag before making off.

A PSNI spokesman said the man was challenged by neighbours in the area of Glenhugh Park where he dropped the handbag and made off.

He is described as being approximately 6 ft 2 ins tall and of slim build and was wearing a light coloured t-shirt and baseball cap.

The lady was not injured but left shaken by her ordeal.Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact them at Lisburn on 101, quoting reference 628 of 23/4/17.
