Largest entry of cattle at Rathfriland this winter

Last Friday saw the largest entry of cattle for this winter with 100 top quality weanlings in the entry.

These sold to 255.5p/k for a 182k Ch at £465. A 250k lot from the same Portadown farm made £615. Bullocks cleared up to £1180 for a Donaghmore farmer who sold 8 to an average of £1115 each. A Magheraconlouse farmer reached £220.50 for 2 Ch bullocks 365k at £805 each. Heifers topped at £950 for a Rathfriland farmer and Suckler stock to £1400 for a Dromara farmer. Dropped calves remain a very good trade to £430 for an outstanding Sim heifer a few months old from Cullyhanna. 2 Angus bulls and 1 Lim from Castlewellan sold at £345 each.

A Cullyhanna farmer topped the sale at £430 for a strong Sim heifer. Castlewellan farmer: 2 Angus bulls at £345 and a Lim bull at £345. Corbet farmer: BB bull £325. Rathfriland farmer: Sim bulls £300, Her bull £270 and Her heifer £240. Crossgar farmer: Angus bull £290 and £205. Cavehill farmer: BB heifer £300 and £285. Banbridge farmer: Her heifer £245. Ardglass farmer: Her heifer £240. Saler bulls to £270 for a Ballykeel farmer.

£100 per head for was recorded for hoggets on Tuesday evening. This was paid to a Comber farmer for 10 texels at 31.5kg. The top 10 lots of hoggets sold from £95 to £100 each. 204 fat ewes sold to £114 twice for 3 farmers from Kilkeel and 1 from Tassagh (Co Armagh). There were more ewes over the £90 mark this week.
