Senior Northern Irish justice figure dies

Corinne Philpott, formerly a leading judge in Northern Ireland, has died.

It is thought she may have died in this morning, however the details are uncofirmed as yet.

She had presided over the recent high-profile trial of incestuous child abuser Liam Adams (brother of Sinn Fein leader Gerry), among many others.

It is understood she had been a county court judge since 1998.

Her most recent appearance in the News Letter’s archive was in October 2014, when she sentenced two rioters to prison.
