If Northern Ireland had bettered Scotland’s goal difference they would have set up the historical tie but it was not to be.

Germany took the lead inside five minutes as Klara Buhl made no mistake.

It was then the turn of Perry to come to the hosts aid as she made a good save at her front post to keep out Sarai Linder as she weaved her way around the defence.

Germany did make it two on 24 minutes when neat work from the favourites to win the tournament saw the ball fall for Buhl and she drilled home her second of the evening leaving Perry with no chance.

It was 3-0 as Rieke bundled the ball into the net from close range despite the best efforts of Teresa Burns to clear.

Germany created the first chance of the second half as Buhl sprinted down the right before crossing to Tanja Pawollek but she fired wide of the target at the near post.

The fourth did arrive shortly after as the impressive Kogel fired into the net from just outside the box on 59 minutes as the home defence were tiring.

It was 5-0 on 61 minutes as Perry lunged forward to keep out Rieke but the ball fell to Caroline Siems and she fired into the net leaving the young keeper with no chance.

Perry was having the game of her life as she made a great save with her legs on 76 minutes as she stopped a Janina Minge shot flying into the bottom corner of the net after Emma McMaster flicked away a cross from the right.

It really was the Perry show as she made another save on 78 minutes as Siems has weaved her way into the box before her low shot was saved by the legs of the stopper.

Theresa Burns then made a last-ditch tackle in the 86th minute to stop Pawollek as she was about to shoot and surely score.

Germany did make it 6-0 a minute later as Gerhardt is played in by Kogel before firing low into the net.
