Marron clocked up 90 minutes on his Irish League debut - helping the Lurgan Blues secure a first away win of the Danske Bank Premiership in the process.

Hamilton, in another boost for Marron, then handed the Northern Ireland youth international a full appearance in the League Cup quarter-final success over Cliftonville.

“Caolan came in against Ards last weekend and never put a foot wrong,” said Hamilton. “He has represented Northern Ireland at youth international level and we have always had a tradition of promoting youth in my time with Glenavon.

“We have injury issues at present but that opens up the door for players to step in and Caolan is getting his chance to gain experience and prove his ability at senior level.

“Mark Sykes, James Singleton and Rhys Marshall are just some of the players who have come up in cup ties and gone on to become established.

“If you have the ability then age does not matter.

“I will always back my players to perform and if we play to our level, we can beat anyone.

“Our preparations for the Cliftonville tie centred on an expected tough test against a side in good form of late.

“It will be the same this weekend against a Glentoran team in good form under Gary Haveron.

“It is up to us to have the right mentality.”

Hamilton singled out Moorhouse for special praise - with the forward finding the net against both Ards and Cliftonville.

“Greg is a good lad who has come in and done really well,” said Hamilton. “I watched him in the summer and was impressed with his work-rate and energy.

“It is great to see Greg getting his rewards as he is an honest player making the most of his opportunity.”
