The Stoke City midfielder this week created a JustGiving page offering fans the opportunity to win his international shirt signed by the full squad from Northern Ireland’s EURO 2020 qualifier against Germany.

The shirt is connected to the 2-0 victory for Germany last September in Belfast. Thompson will confirm a winner on Friday, April 17, having set an initial target of £2,000.

Thompson will select a name from the final donations list and confirm over his social media platform.

“Please help us - to help NHS staff - to help you and your loved ones,” said Thompson on the JustGiving page. “For a chance to win my valued signed Northern Ireland shirt from Northern v Germany EURO 2020 qualifier 9/9/2019 (signed by entire squad).

“I am asking for a donation of as little as £5 to go towards helping our NHS at this difficult time and time of need, healthcare workers are risking their lives daily without adequate protection to care for sick patients.

“This is the equivalent of going to war with no armour.

“Once your donation has gone through, tick the box alongside “Im happy to be contacted by <..>”.

“Justgiving can then send your contact details to me so I can contact you should you win!

“The winner will be chosen at random and announced on my social media platforms next Friday 17th April @ 5pm.

“Thank you all for your time and donations, good luck!”

The former Rangers and Blackpool player was signed by Northern Ireland and Stoke City boss Michael O’Neill in January.

The 23-year-old was included in O’Neill’s international panel for the scheduled EURO 2020 play-off semi-final against Bosnia and Herzegovina postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
