After producing the upset of the Irish Cup fifth round last weekend, Limavady United boss Paul Owens has targeted another big win in Championship duty this evening.

The Roesiders, who are currently second in the standings, make the visit to league leaders Bangor as they aim to cut the gap at the top-of-the-table.

Despite six points currently separating the top-two in the division, United travel to Co Down full of confidence after knocking out reigning Irish League champions Larne in the Irish Cup last Saturday.

After watching his players record a 3-1 success at Clandeboye Park earlier this season, Owens is eager for his players to produce a similar performance.

"We were 12 points behind a few weeks ago and to be honest we had kind of written it off, targeting second spot but we've done really well over December which has put us in a strong position," he said.

"But, listen, every game in this league is hard – anybody can beat anybody.

"But we've proved on our day what we can do.

"We've already gone to Bangor this season and won with a really good performance, so there's no doubt we'll be going and trying to do the same."

Owens, who is currently enjoying his second spell in the Limavady dugout, says the club have aspirations of becoming a top-flight club once again.

He stated after the 1-0 extra-time win over Larne which sets-up a sixth-round tie away at Crusaders: “We're a Championship club, we're striving to get up to the Premiership over the next two or three years, hopefully it's a wee bit quicker, but it shows the potential at the club that we can produce performances like that against a Conference League team.

"They've just beaten Gent and that's what my wee boy reminded me this morning. It's a huge day for the club, great for everybody, but there's a lot of hard work gone into it. I think it was fully deserved.”

Bangor also reached the sixth-round of the Irish Cup after a 2-1 extra-time win at home to Newington.

Lee Feeney’s men reward is a home clash against Annagh United in the next round of the competition.
