Haveron, who was unveiled as the boss of east Belfast club on Wednesday afternoon, said: “It’s a huge honour to be at this football club and a privilege to be here. After a spell at Carrick I was hoping that an opportunity like this would develop. It’s a huge job and I’m grateful to the board and the chairman for giving me the opportunity,”

In a message to the fans he admitted he was not everybody’s first choice, adding: “That’s fine. That’s up to me to make sure I make believers out of them. This is my opportunity and I’m determined to make it as successful a spell as I possibly can.”

The former Carrick manager said: “We will take it one game at a time. I’m not going to look any further than that. Linfield is the next three points on offer and that’s a game we have to prepare as best we possibly can for. The players need to go out and show the fans how much it means for them to play for Glentoran.

“We have to go and compete with Linfield all over the park. We have to show that pride and passion and if we do that we’ll not be far away.”
