Mark McKinstry will be man to beat at Stanley Reid Memorial 5 Miles Road Race

More than 400 athletes are expected for Friday night's Stanley Reid Memorial 5 Miles Road Race from Loughry College in Cookstown.

Ards winner Mark McKinstry will start favourite if he competes. Defending champion Chris McPeake will feature while Acorns have a very strong trio in Darrell McKee, Glen Donnelly and Aaron Meharg and Michael Crawley is in tremendous form.

Heather Foley may fancy her third successive win in this event as last year just two days before her Lisburn triathlon outing.

Gemma McDonald, Pauline Thom and Pauline McGurren can be medal contenders along with Cathy McCourt.

The action starts at 7:30pm.

There is also a one mile family fun run inside the grounds at 6:45pm.

Meanwhile Ryan Andrews and Jessica Craig took the major honours in the Crawfordsburn 5 Miles Trail Race promoted by North Down AC with help from the NI Environment Agency.

Andrews from Ballydrain stormed home on the uphill finish to cross the line just one second before Willowfield’s Christopher Dean with Gary Morrow also Willowfield just two seconds further back.

Two more Willowfield athletes David Proctor and Deane Fisher followed ahead of top junior Scott McKeag of Ballydrain.

Jessica Craig was simply superb as she retained her Ladies title. The North Down girl had only three men ahead of her and was just ten seconds behind the main winner as she won from Cathy McCourt, Jodi Smith and Denise Logue.

There was a record number of 265 competitors.
