Belfast museum named among the UK's 10 best free family days out
A Belfast museum has been named among the UK's 10 best free family days out, according to new research.

Adventure travel company Arctic Direct ranked the Ulster Museum as the eighth-best free family attraction in the UK and the highest-ranking attraction in Northern Ireland.
The research compared free attractions across the UK using factors designed to reflect what matters when planning a family day out, including Google ratings and reviews, rainy-day suitability, how easily a visit could fill a whole day, family appeal, weather resilience, transport and the risk of additional costs.
The Ulster Museum achieved an overall score of 92.45 out of 100, placing it ahead of London Museum Docklands, Great North Museum: Hancock in Newcastle and Young V&A in London.
The Belfast museum has a Google rating of 4.7 and almost 5,800 reviews, while receiving the maximum score available for family appeal.
It was also rated "excellent" for rainy-day suitability and received top scores for weather resilience and transport ease, making it a particularly strong option for families looking for a free day out regardless of the weather.

Ulster Museum among the UK's highest-ranking free attractions
The Ulster Museum finished just behind some of the UK's biggest free museums.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow topped the ranking with a score of 97.75, followed by the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh on 96.39.
London's Science Museum came third, the National Railway Museum in York ranked fourth and the Natural History Museum in London completed the top five.
Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds and Manchester Museum took sixth and seventh respectively, placing the Ulster Museum immediately behind them in eighth.
Its strong result was helped by its combination of high visitor ratings, family appeal and suitability for days when the weather makes outdoor plans less appealing.
How the ranking was calculated
Arctic Direct assessed free attractions using eight factors: Google rating, number of Google reviews, rainy-day suitability, full-day potential, family appeal, weather resilience, transport ease and extra-cost risk.
Each factor was converted into a weighted score, giving every attraction an overall result out of 100.
Google ratings, full-day potential and family appeal carried the greatest weight in the final ranking, while the methodology also rewarded attractions that could provide a reliable day out in poor weather and where families were less likely to face additional costs during their visit.
