Men’s Sheds go Cross Border in exciting new Exchange Programme!
Men’s Sheds North and South will be crossing over in an exciting new exchange initiative launched this week.

The Men's Shed Border Exchange Programme will see the partnering of a number of organisations based in Sligo and Northern Ireland with the aim of facilitating new connections, sharing of best practices, and developing regular collaborations on a cross-border basis. Participants will get to take part in an exciting programme of activities including workshops, days out and visits to cultural venues.
The initiative which runs until April 2027 is presented by the award-winning MayWe Events and supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU programme Body (SEUPB). Additional funding was also provided by Sligo County Council (as part of its ‘Thriving and peaceful communities’ theme).
“Men’s Sheds have long been a vital part of community life in Ireland. They provide a welcoming and supportive space where men can come together, share skills, and, most importantly, build friendships. But what makes this initiative especially powerful is that it goes a step further—it reaches across the border to create new links, new understandings, and new opportunities.” said the Leas Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Cllr Thomas Walsh at the launch of the initiative
Speaking at the Programme Launch hosted by Cliffoney Men’s Shed in Sligo, MayWe Managing Director Lois Kennedy said:
“At the heart of every Men's Shed is the belief that people are stronger when they come together. And we are so excited to be able to present the PEACEPLUS Men's Shed exchange programme, which takes this concept to the next level by bringing people from different backgrounds and parts of the island together, building friendships, sharing skills, and creating connections.
The Exchange Programme gives members the unique opportunity for Sligo and Northern Ireland Sheds to cross over to each other, explore new cultural venues and experiences, meet new people and share ideas.
We’ve learned at MayWe that shared experiences foster understanding, challenge assumptions, an remind us of the values and experiences we share. The Men’s Shed Exchange does just that, and is firmly rooted in respect, connection, and the relationships we build with one another.”
