Protests against NI protocol being held - Carrick tonight and Antrim on Saturday

A ‘large protest’ is expected to be held tonight in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

A social media post highlighting the event says it will leave “Castlemara estate at 7pm sharp”.

It claims the parade is against the ‘NI protocol (Irish Sea Border, two tiered policing, and ‘ we demand equal citizenship alongside the rest of the UK’.

It adds that the protest “will be peaceful” and “those intent on causing trouble are not welcome and should stay away”.

It adds that Covid-19 restrictions “will be adhered to” and finished with: “Come along and show London, Dublin, Brussels and Washington that we will never be dictated to”.

On Saturday a post saying “everyone welcome” has been circulated on social media about a second protest against the ‘NI protocol and two tier policing’ in Antrim town.

It says: “We will not be the generation that fails Ulster”.

Unannounced protests have been monitored by the PSNI who have said they are aware of social media activity around them.
