Spike in the number of scam reports in Mid and East Antrim

Police in Mid and East Antrim are responding to a spike in the number of scams reported in the last 24 hours.

And they are also urging the public to be alert and not become a victim of fraud.

PSNI Mid and East Antrim stated: “Yesterday (Tuesday) in Mid and East Antrim we had quite a number of scams reported to us. These calls included HMRC supposedly threatening arrest; Amazon wanting to access a computer to get money; NCA wanting details of National Insurance number; and apparently Euro Millions wanting to give away money.

“Please don’t get caught out. Anyone can be the victim of a scam. Our callers yesterday ranged from someone in their 20s to a man in his 60s.

“Check Scamwiseni for advice about scams that are doing the rounds at the minute. If you are the victim of a fraud you can report this to Action Fraud.

“Remember never click a link or respond to instructions from calls or texts you were not expecting. If something seems to good to be true it probably is!”
