Carl Frampton wins WBA Featherweight World title in New York

Carl Frampton is the new WBA Featherweight world champion after beating Leo Santa in New York on Saturday night.

The judges scored the fight 114-114, 116-112 and 117-111 to make Frampton a two weight world champion.

A lively first round with both fighters throwing heavy shots in the opening three minutes.

A good second round from Frampton as he wobbles Santa Cruz with a heavy left hook.

The third round was another good round for the Belfast fighter as he kept up the pressure,.

Santa Cruz upped the pace in the fourth round but Frampton was finding that his left hook was finding the target.

A slightly quieter fifth round but Frampton was doing the better work and was pushing Santa Cruz back.

Both fighters came to fight in the sixth and Frampton and Santa Cruz both had their moments in a thrilling three minutes.

The seventh was another action packed round as both fighters traded punches.

The eighth was another close round as both fighters looked to throw power shots.

Frampton’s footwork was to the fore in the ninth round s he evaded Santa Cruz at will, but the fight was still well and truly on.

The tenth was another close round as both fighters kept looking for that fighting changing punch.

Frampton upped the pace in the 11th round and landed some heavy shots.

The 12th round was a real war as both fighters looked to end the fight on a high - but Frampton was the winner.

And Conrad Cummings got another win on his record as he saw off Dante Moore on points - 59-53 and two scores of 58-54.

It was a polished performance from Cummings and he hurt his opponent at several times throughout the clash.

Cummings took his time and showed patience at the right time and a title fight must be on the horizon for the talented middleweight.
