Lee Feeney feels Bangor in 'false position' as he pinpoints what's required 'if you want to stay in this league'

Bangor manager Lee Feeney feels his side are currently in a “false position” after picking up a second consecutive league victory following Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Crusaders – and has called for consistency as the Seasiders look to stay in Northern Ireland’s top-flight.

The Clandeboye Park outfit won just one of their first 13 league matches this term – a home triumph over bottom club Portadown – but have now recorded back-to-back wins after Iestyn Hughes’ early weekend strike.

Defensive improvements have helped set the platform for Bangor’s promising run with Feeney’s men keeping three clean sheets across their last four league games.

While delighted with current form, Feeney has challenged his players to maintain these levels across an extended period as Bangor look to make further progression.

"There’s a satisfaction to winning a game 1-0, grinding it out, and we did that,” said Feeney on BBC Sportsound. “If you look at the last four games, Larne are the only team to score against us.

"That’s an area of the pitch we needed to improve in and we have, but we know we have to keep doing it.

"You can’t do it for one, two or three games, if you want to stay in this league or you want to climb the table, whatever your target is, you have to be consistent in everything you do.

"If you want to be a good Premiership player in this country, you need to be consistent and that’s something we need to work on.

"You go into every game aiming for three points, it doesn’t matter how you get them, and when you get them it helps the position we’re in.

"I know we’re sitting at the bottom of the league, but personally I feel we’re in a false position...we need to be consistent and picking up points regularly.

"When we were sitting bottom of the table and not picking up results, the players were still coming into training and working hard.

"They’re willing to learn and improve, there was no pointing fingers or anybody making excuses, and we all stuck together.

"We need to keep believing that we can win games, keep clean sheets, scoring goals, and you’re relying on a bit of luck too.”
